teaching

You're looking for a violin, viola or chamber music teacher, someone to head a section rehearsal or a lecturer for your project? You're in the right place!

Besides being an active viola player I am a passionate teacher and pedagogue for violin, viola, chamber music and orchestral playing. I first started teaching when I was 16 years old and it has accompanied me ever since. My teaching experience inspired me to not only complete the artistic profile of my bachelor program, but the pedagogical profile as well. Over the years it has led me to gain a broad range of experiences in the field, from one-on-one lessons with students of all ages to lecturing string and viola sections in different ensembles and orchestras.

In my work as a pedagogue, it is important to me to go beyond the teaching of technical skills and convey a holistic understanding of music. This enables my students to be musically active in an independent and diverse way.

I speak English and German fluently as well as some Croatian, therefore lessons and rehearsals are usually held in English or German.

As well as in-person lessons in Vienna, I also offer online lessons.

Q&A

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes, you do. If you don't already have an instrument or are able to borrow one from someone you know, you can rent one from one of the many luthiers in your city or area. If you need help with finding an instrument, contact me!

Online lessons - does that work?

Yes! I have had many good experiences with online lessons. Especially when you're working on a specific piece or technique.

I would not recommend them for young students, because it is harder to stay focussed on a screen than on a person. Also beginners of all ages should have in-person lessons, too, because they depend more on mirroring the teacher as well as playing together with the teacher.

I'm not sure which kind of lesson is best for me

If you are a beginner, especially a young one, I would recommend one 45-minutes-lesson per week. If you prefere to start lessons with a friend, I would recommend one 60-minutes-lesson per week for the two of you. This setting is the best basis for continuous progress on the instrument. Especially at the beginning continuity is key to learning the instrument, which is why the half-year contract ist probably the best option for you.

For older students who already play the instrument and have a fuller time table I recommend the 10-lessons option: you can schedule the lessons as you need them - all at once, biweekly, depending on how much is going on at home or at work, etc.

The single lessons are great for students who want to have last-minute-help with preparing for an orchestra or chamber music project or for more advanced players who would like a crash-course with a piece, maybe look at a Bach piece from a historically infromed point of view or get another opinion on their Brahms Sonata.

What to do if you can't make it to a scheduled lesson?

Just contact me, we will reschedule the lesson!

If the lesson is canceled less than 24h in advance I will try to reschedule it, if that's not possible I will have to charge for the lesson nonetheless.
